My name is Laura Bernal and I am a professional translator and proofreader. I work from English, French, Portuguese and Dutch into Spanish.
I was born in the historic town of Plasencia in Extremadura (western Spain). My interest in languages and cultures began at an early age, when I found shelter from the hot summer days in Ireland. I grew up surrounded by books, and my passion for languages and literature naturally led me to study Translation and Interpreting. Since finishing my studies in Salamanca and Angers, I have continued to learn, develop my translation skills and gain professional experience across a range of domains. After living in Lisbon for a year, I moved to Mechelen, near Brussels, where I have been living since 2015.
In terms of professional experience, I have translated and proofread over one million words — as both an in-house and a freelance translator — on topics ranging from history, art and literature to economics, business and advertising. If you want to know more about my professional experience, please consult my CV.
In my spare time I enjoy getting lost in nature, writing and enjoying good conversations. If it was up to me, I would live in every city, bathe in every river and climb to the top of every mountain in the world. Luckily, we’ll always have books!
